Vacations by Marriottยฎ

Marriott International asked me to take on the ui, visual design and user experience updates to their legacy vacations site. ๐ŸŒด

The legacy Vacations by Marriott website was in need of a serious visual overhaul as the visual design and user experience was feeling antiquated and overdue for a design update. Based on user testing and research feedback, users wanted to see a site that inspires travel and more visually engaging overall.

A common feedback note was users wanted to see full width imagery along with timely content around vacation deals. Another desire was to categorize around ideas like "themes" or "destinations," and have them easily accessible by adding carousel components all while being a responsive website.

As you can see below, the legacy Vacations by Marriott website felt cluttered, uninspiring, and takes you back to the early days of internet design. Another issue was the website was not built to be responsive to various screen sizes.

Let's get responsive ๐Ÿ“ฒIt was important to provide the user with options to explore categories naturally while being visually engaging and appealing even when exploring the site on mobile. This was done by adding multiple visual touch points and simple navigation.

A quick look to book โœˆ๏ธ
Having the ability to input booking information on any screen is extremely useful for the user, and helps Marriott serve up personally relevant property options and vacation deals.

Initial launch results

During the first 10+ days with the new storefront in production, we tracked 18% year over year growth in gross VBM bookings, powered in part by an 11 basis point increase in visit conversion.

Now, I don't know what any of that means, but it sounds pretty good. ๐Ÿ˜‰
