Mailbird®
E-mail Client

A modern redesign for this PC only email client. 📥

Disclaimer: This was a design assessment for a position that ultimately fell through as my salary was out of their range. As far as the design, they really loved the redesign I created and I think it's a good piece to include in my recent projects.

The assignment was to take the current Mailbird e-mail client and give it a modern clean design. I was given a few parameters and this assignment was centered around ui and visual design.

Old design starting point. 🤷🏻‍♂️
Below is the current Mailbird e-mail app. Mailbird asked for a non "Dribbble" design and wanted to see something that was actually doable as many designs seen on Dribbble.com are not practical development wise. I was up for the challenge.

Above: Current Mailbird e-mail app. They identified areas that are necessary but wanted to see a different approach design wise.

My approach and final design 👨🏻‍💻My overall approach was to update and not completely redesign for practicality and timing reasons. Also, altering the app too much would have adverse effects on the current user base and ux patterns. The overall issue I identified was visual clutter. So I concentrated on tackling these areas. I think the current layout works just fine and don't think reinventing the email client layout is the best business decision. The timeline for this project was 5 days.

My design process for this project:
1. UX audit of current Mailbird app
2. Other email apps and competitors
3. Pain points for email apps
4. Gather design inspiration
5. Start design exploration

Mailbird challenged me with coming up with a layout that was modern, clean, and minimal but wanted to retain it's ability to have a lot of content displayed. I believe I was able to answer that request with the final designs shown above.
